Senior Sustainability/ESG Research Analyst
We are looking for a senior sustainability analyst to join our fast-growing team in London or Rotterdam.
Our team comprises three core parts: Research, active ownership, and strategy and innovation. The role we are recruiting for is in our research team.
The research role includes analysing companies and governments on a range of sustainability themes important to our investment processes, such as climate change, land use, water use, labour rights and human rights.
This is a challenging and senior role at the heart of our sustainability team. The role requires strong use of Excel for methodological screening, strong qualitative assessment skills, and strong communication skills.
Your department
The Sustainability & Strategy department is a team of driven professionals. Within ACTIAM and Cardano, we are responsible for the development and implementation of the responsible and sustainable investment policies. With research at the heart of what we do.
We work closely with our investment, client and sales team colleagues in Rotterdam and London. We collaborate with a range of stakeholders, including other investors, sustainability NGOs, data providers and regulators. Cardano and ACTIAM are a frontrunner on sustainability topics – and in this fast moving industry, we want to retain our leadership position.
The team currently consists of 18 individuals based in Rotterdam and London, where this vacancy is replacing one of our colleagues.
Your function
The Sustainability and Strategy team comprises three core parts:
(1) Research:
- ESG and sustainability analysis of companies, countries and data.
- Screening companies against our Fundamental Investment Principles and our Material Sustainability Drivers. More details of this can be found in our policy.
- Preparing sustainability policies, including emerging sustainability themes, such as natural capital, human rights or water risks.
(2) Active Ownership:
- Voting / Co-filing
- Engaging companies, governments and stakeholder groups
(3) Strategy and Innovation
- Reviewing, refreshing and updating Cardano and ACTIAM’s long-term sustainability strategy.
- Innovation, such as our Satelligence partnership or our work on geospatial technologies to map sustainability risks to companies’ supply chains.
- Assessing ESG, sustainability and impact data
Your role would be within the research sub-team.
We are looking for:
We are looking for an enthusiastic and ambitious colleague. You enjoy contributing in a structured way towards the team and company goals. You work accurately and enjoy teaming up with your colleagues from all departments. You like to address sustainability issues both from a financial as from an impact point of view.
We are looking for a candidate with quantitative and analytical skills to thoroughly assess ESG-related data and evaluate the ESG-related risks of companies and countries.
Your tasks include:
- Screening investments against our sustainability policies in collaboration with our ESG data providers
- Analysing companies’ real-world sustainability impact and ability to transition, in order to meet the Sustainable Development Goals
- Maintaining documentation on processes and work descriptions
- Supporting the reporting process on a quarterly basis
- Facilitating our quarterly Sustainability Implementation Committee, where we discuss our sustainability policies and their implementation
- Preparing and updating new sustainability policies
We ask for:
- Degree in Ecology, Economics, Finance, Earth Sciences, Sustainable/ International development or similar
- Excellent comprehension of the English language, both verbally and in writing; speaking Dutch is an advantage
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant job experience, for example as an ESG Analyst, ESG investment strategist (or impact investing) or ESG strategy-consultant, or similar
- An understanding of investment, pension funds and insurance funds
- Numerical insight and knowledge of ESG-data systems and Excel
- Proactive and collaborative
- Ability to quickly switch between different tasks
- Ability to work under pressure with precision
Competencies:
You work in a structured and process-oriented matter and are conscientious. You have proper comprehension of English and Dutch, both verbally and in writing, is an advantage. You are results-oriented, thorough and systematic. You can work independently. You are also a strong team player.
