The successful candidate will join Robeco’s globally recognized Credit team, which manages both public and private credit strategies. With over forty dedicated professionals and approximately €45 billion in assets under management, the team is known for its deep expertise, disciplined investment approach, and strong reputation among clients and consultants worldwide. The private debt capability is embedded within the broader leveraged finance platform, enabling close collaboration across public high yield and private credit. This integrated structure fosters robust idea generation and seamless execution across the credit spectrum. Robeco has built a strong track record in Dutch private debt through the Bedrijfsleningenfonds (BLF), deploying over €700 million across 40+ transactions. The team combines deep credit expertise with Sustainability integration to deliver tailored financing solutions to mid-market corporates.

The Portfolio Manager Private Debt will be part of a dynamic and collaborative environment that values analytical rigor, while having a meaningful impact on growing the private debt business.

Position & Requirements

Robeco is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Portfolio Manager to join its Private Debt team, which is part of the broader Leveraged Finance platform. You will work closely with the Lead PM on the strategy, in a team that will consist of initially four Private Debt portfolio managers . This role offers the opportunity to contribute to the continued growth of Robeco’s private debt strategies within a collaborative and high-performing environment. It is Robeco’s strategic goal to grow the capability substantially over the coming years.

In the role of Portfolio Manager Private Debt you will:

• Perform comprehensive credit analysis of companies and financing structures, including financial, commercial, structural, and sustainability aspects.
• Lead the structuring, negotiation, and execution of new private debt transactions.
• Monitor and manage the performance and risk profile of the existing loans in portfolio.
• Maintain and develop strong relationships with debt advisors, banks, sponsors, and (potential) borrowers.
• Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders, including SI analysts, sector specialists, and other portfolio managers.
• Contribute to the strategic development of the private debt platform and support fundraising and client engagement initiatives.

Requirements

• Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, ideally within a bank’s leveraged finance department or as a credit specialist focused on lending.
• Master’s degree from a top-tier university in economics, finance, business administration, accounting, or a technical discipline, with outstanding academic results.
• Strong credit analysis capabilities.
• Demonstrated inquisitiveness and critical thinking, with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
• Deep understanding of accounting principles and extensive experience in financial statement analysis.
• Advanced financial modeling skills, with proficiency in building and interpreting complex models.
• Familiarity with loan documentation standards, particularly LMA-based agreements.
• Collaborative team player with excellent interpersonal skills.
• Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders and external parties such as banks, sponsors, and advisors.
• Fluency in Dutch and English is required; proficiency in German is considered a plus.
